Fort Carroll, Sitting right outside of the Baltimore Harbor historically acted as a defensive fort for the Port of Baltimore. In 1853, a lighthouse was built on the ramparts to aid navigation into Baltimore Harbor. It was automated in 1920 and discontinued operations sometime before 1945. Now it sits outside the Port symbolizing the industrial and military history that lies within Baltimore.
